How do these moves incentivize long term, sustainable building?
They don't.
The tokenomics were a total joke — payouts so skewed that creators barely scraped by while Pump.Fun made hand over fist on launch fees. Everyone is posting creator fees screenshots on the TL and everything is going great, everyone’s printing etc…But this won’t last forever. Normal people aren’t familiar with how toxic the space is. We’ll soon start hearing stories about the toll it takes on people to have your streams tied to a coin. When people give you money, they hold you accountable because they now consider themselves investors, not just viewers - and this is a dangerous path. Creators will soon be forced to slave for their viewers to sustain the price. What happens when a creator wants to take a break? Not possible. Crypto mfs can be wild and it’s only a matter of time before we start reading stories of people getting threatened/beaten up because they stopped streaming which led to people losing money. It feels like normies don’t understand what they’re getting into when launching a streamer coin, they don’t fully grasp what it implies. people didn't want to talk about it for a long time because 'skill issue' and 'no crying in the trenches' but most people can finally admit Pumpfun was like dropping a nuclear bomb on the entire of onchain somehow the get-rich-quick-super-rotation meta that took place on Solana with pumpfun was a contagion that effected all chains it's like sense went out the window and there was literally no alternative market you'd think 10 or 20% of liquidity would have provided an alternative, more sophisticated and low risk landscape on a chain like ETH or BASE but it didn't happen apart from some very rare outliers Solana and the pumpfun supercycle kept just eating liquidity for well over a year eventually even the most staunch of anti-pumpfun and anti-solana traders moved there because it looked like the meta would never change (and they got rekt) now you have this absolute despondence across the entire onchain landscape even if we're seeing some signs of life on Sonic and a bit on Avax but the timeline is still very quiet apart from LTF CEX traders playing the chop so many people i know are down 50-80% from portfolio all time highs just getting rinsed relentlessly for months I think this is the bottom in terms of sentiment for sure and it's such a strange sight: BTC at 95k! but levels of dissolution and depression I didn't see even in the brutal depths of the bear market at 16k BTC we have to admit: most of the timeline got ruthlessly extracted in probably the biggest liquidity destroying event of all time that didn't come in the form of a big overnight rug, or a nuke, but months and months and months of liquidity vacuum. This created massive downward pressure on the SOL price (30%+ drops at peak, like after the June dump of 4.19M SOL for $751M), sucked $1.5B out of the ecosystem - money that could have gone to real projects instead of speculative hype. As a result, Solana turned into a “shitcoin chain”: builders left for other networks (dev activity down 40% from 2024 peak).
